Nehiyawak Land and Language Camp

The Aboriginal Friendship Centres of Saskatchewan has partnered with Belinda Daniels to bring the 10th annual Nehiyawak Land and Language Summer Camp in Sturgeon Lake, Saskatchewan.

Belinda Daniels has been running the camp since 2005 which focuses on learning about the land as well as learning the Cree language. The camp is being held from July 20-24, 2014.

The camp registration is currently full, however please contact us if you want to be placed on a waiting list in case someone cannot make it last minute.

A Glimpse into the Nehiyawak Land & Language Camp

The camp allows for 15 participants over the age of 18 to partake in the following valuable activities and teachings:

  • Cree language teachings
  • Chokecherry pounding
  • Sweetgrass picking/ harvesting
  • Ratroot picking/ harvesting
  • Muskeg & mint tea picking/ harvesting
  • Rabbit tracking and snaring
  • Rabbit skinning and eating
  • Fishing, Swimming, Hiking
  • Story Telling
  • Meditation
  • Singing, drumming, dancing
  • Beading
  • Medicine Wheel Teachings
  • Elder Teachings
Participants are responsible for their own camping gear and food.

The land and language summer camp costs $395.00 for the 5 days. If you are interested in participating, please fill out the registration form and waiver and send to our office address listed on the registration form. If you would like to pay with cash you can drop by the AFCS office to do so. Please do not mail money. Cheques can either be dropped off at our office or mailed with your registration form.
