Objective

To improve the quality of life for Aboriginal Peoples in an urban environment by supporting self-determined activities which encourage equal access to, and participation in Canadian society; and which respect and strengthen the increasing emphasis on Aboriginal cultural distinctiveness.

Who can apply?

The National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) in association with Aboriginal friendship centres. The NAFC administers funding under the Transfer Agreement respecting the Aboriginal Friendship Centre Program. The Aboriginal friendship centres (AFC) which were funded at the time of the Transfer Agreement apply directly to the NAFC for funding support.

What is the deadline?

The NAFC establishes the deadlines for applications from the AFCs. The funding support to AFCs is outlined in the Annual Appendix which the NAFC presents to the Department of Canadian Heritage by March 1 of each year of the Agreement (2000-2001 to 2004-2005).
